Our Mission Statement

 

Centre Stage (Taupo) Inc. will strive to provide exciting theatre craft experiences and produce and encourage creative opportunities for everyone through quality management, progressive attitudes and working as a team towards excellence.

BACKGROUND

 

Taupo Dramatic Society and Taupo Operatic Society joined together in 1986 to become Centre Stage (Taupo) Inc.

Centre Stage (Taupo) Inc. is an incorporated society, therefore it is owned by its members, for the benefit of the Taupo Community.  Any financial surpluses are reinvested in the achievement of our mission.

THE PLAYHOUSE

 

Centre Stage own their clubrooms and theatre known as ‘The Playhouse’. It has undergone extensive alterations.

 

ª The Playhouse in Matai Street was originally constructed sometime before 1950

 

ª It was moved onto the current site in 1967, and acquired by the operatic society in 1974.

 

ª In 1983, the workshop was added to the Playhouse.

 

ª In 1986, the auditorium and foyer was painted and new curtains were installed.

 

ª In 1993, major work was undertaken and the foyer was enlarged and new toilets and bar area built.

 

ª In 1999, the auditorium was widened and new walls and roof were built. A mezzanine built in the wardrobe and the stage wings were widened. The lighting box was moved and the auditorium and foyer painted and recarpeted

 

ª In 2000, the car park was cobble stoned, a new garden was planted and the exterior of The Playhouse was painted.

 

ª In 2004, a new dressing room and props room built, and the kitchen extended and refitted.
